(Required) OSSTF – Boundary Issues for Educators
November 3, 2020 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm UTC-4

All Year 1 Teacher Candidates are expected to attend this event (or one of the simultaneous Affiliate events) per Ontario College of Teachers’ (OCT) accreditation requirements.
Before going on Practicum, all Teacher Candidates must complete a “Professional Boundaries” workshop delivered by one of the OTF’s Affiliates (ETFO, OSSTF or OECTA). This session will focus on professional boundaries in secondary schools and will be delivered by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF).
We are excited to welcome presenter, Peter Bates.
We will learn about the obligations that teachers have around the Duty to Report. We will learn what Professional Boundaries are and why it is important to maintain Professional Boundaries. We will learn ways to minimize the risk of being faced with allegations or disciplinary actions related to professional boundaries. We will learn best practices about exemplary professionalism in the field of education.
By the end of the session:
- I can describe my responsibilities on how to maintain appropriate professional boundaries
- I can identify best practices that I should employ in order to minimize risk of allegations for misconduct
- I can state standards for exemplary professionalism related to professional boundaries
To Be Completed: Check For Understanding
After attending this event and completing the Check for Understanding, teacher candidates can add it to their Western Co-Curricular Record (WCCR) at connect.uwo.ca
